Board of Directors

The Exposure Photography Festival is seeking volunteers interested in joining our volunteer Board of Directors. The board plays a vital role in leadership, governance and producing the festival.

We are currently looking for individuals who have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising, community investment, sponsorship
  • Grant writing
  • Law pertaining to non-profits
  • Volunteer recruitment/coordination
  • Education and youth outreach
  • Diversity outreach

We are seeking active community members who are eager to help build and expand Alberta’s dynamic photography festival. Previous board experience is considered an asset but is not mandatory. Successful board members are passionate about the medium of photography and excited about festival planning and development.

Board Requirements:

  • Time commitment of up to 10 hours per month is expected, including attendance at monthly board meetings.
  • Additional time is required to assist staff during the festival, from mid-January through the first week of March.
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the festival and its role in the community.

Board Responsibilities

Identity, Direction and Sustainability:

  • Help define the organization’s strategic direction.
  • Help ensure that the organization’s mission, vision, and values are reflected in festival programs.
  • Board members must be active in fundraising efforts, from special events to sponsorship identification.
  • Monitor the organization’s budgets and financial health.

Exposure is becoming better known throughout the province and extending its reputation for excellent, innovative programming to the national and international photography communities. Volunteers play a direct role in shaping the festival’s growth and sustainability while making a lasting contribution to promote and strengthen local arts and culture.

  • Understand the value of board governance and leadership to an organization undergoing growth.
  • Be able to network, collaborate and engage with a variety of people and industries.
  • Demonstrate drive and commitment to enhancing arts and culture.
  • Help provide exceptional experiences to local artists, businesses, audiences and stakeholders.
