Calgary Arts Development is situated on Treaty 7 Territory, home of the Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, Tsuut’ina, Stoney-Nakoda Nations, and Métis Nation Region 3.

Calgary Arts Development is our city’s designated arts development authority. We provide grant investments to hundreds of arts organizations, individual artists, and groups. We value relationships, generosity, reciprocity, plain language, and curiosity.

The Role
We are recruiting a full-time research and policy coordinator to join our impact team. This position is responsible for supporting research and policy projects that align with Calgary Arts Development’s mission and strategic plan.
It also supports the collection and analysis of data pertinent to indicators and outcomes related to Calgary Arts Development activities and Calgary’s arts development strategy, Living a Creative Life.
The person in this role supports the demonstration of arts impacts in our city through rigorous program evaluation and the collection of financial, economic, and demographic data. They are also responsible for coordinating a variety of mapping and data visualization projects.
This role also works on embedding the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, access, Truth and Reconciliation, and right relations with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in Treaty 7 in all research and policy development undertaken by Calgary Arts Development.
Who Are You?
You are interested in research, the arts, public policy, and how those categories intersect with issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.
Most importantly you are curious and diligent. When exploring a new field, you like to know what work already exists, and you’ll figure that out through a literature review or other research scans.
You understand multiple audiences that may have different and sometimes conflicting priorities.
Whether or not you have experience using statistical software, geographic visualization software, or other specific research tools, you are willing to learn how to use these sorts of tools to answer questions around the impact of our programs.
You are passionate about the importance of the arts and creativity in our lives and are curious about different approaches and ways of knowing. You are growing your awareness of equity, diversity, inclusion, and access, and want to ensure that our systems reflect those values.
You’re not all things to all people, but you’re probably already a few of these things:
- You are familiar with processes around grant investment or fund development.
- You are interested in municipal politics.
- Your desk may or may not be as clean as your data sets.
- You probably have experience acquiring data from multiple sources.
- You might think about structuring data within spreadsheets for easy future use.
- You might be proficient working in a Mac-based environment.
- You adapt quickly to using new technologies.
- You are comfortable working in a collaborative and open work environment.
- You are a self-starter who is adaptable working both independently and with a team.
