Young Singers Director

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the artistic director, the young singers director’s primary duties will be to:

  • Lead weekly rehearsals from September to May for boys Kindergarten to Grade 2, focusing on choral skills and musicianship.
  • Participate in choral workshops/day camps (four to five in approximately monthly intervals over the course of the season).
  • Prepare and co-conduct boys in two large and two community-based concerts per season.
Additional Duties
  • Assist/conduct rehearsals and performances with the other Calgary Boys’ Choir ensembles, as required.
  • Attend all workshops, day camps, and festivals as outlined in the season calendar.
  • Participate in fundraising events and other administrative duties as required.
  • Communicate regularly and openly with the artistic and administrative staff, keeping abreast of all information as outlined in choir memos.
  • Attend all artistic meetings and occasional board meetings.

Other duties may be requested by the artistic director and will be discussed as they arise.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in music education or performance.
  • Early childhood music education experience/pedagogy an asset.
  • Conducting experience of two to five years, with at least one year conducting children.
  • Experience teaching children and youth.
  • An understanding of vocal pedagogy.
  • Excellent theory and musicianship skills.
  • Proficient piano skills (for rehearsing and basic accompaniment).
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Compensation: $50 to $60/hour, commensurate with experience.
