Calgary Pride is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization with a mandate to advance visibility and inclusion for Calgary’s gender and sexually diverse communities.

Calgary Pride has several exciting leadership opportunities charged with creating meaningful impact within our LGBTQ2A+ community. We are currently recruiting for volunteer board members with an awareness of community inclusion along with diverse professional and lived experiences, knowledge, and talents.

As a board member, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of Calgary Pride’s strategic direction. You will be advocating for Calgary Pride’s mission within our city while actively supporting Calgary Pride’s annual programming including Reading with Royalty, the Queerly Festive Dinner, the Ally Toolkit Conference, and our annual Pride Parade and Festival.

Calgary Pride encourages applications from those with specific industry experience to fill specialized roles along with individuals who hold a passion for giving back to the community to fill the director at large vacancies.

Responsibilities & Commitment:

  • Promote Calgary Pride’s mandate and vision throughout Calgary.
  • Contribute to Calgary Pride’s organizational direction by offering expertise and mindful engagement.
  • Attend approximately fifteen board meetings per year.
  • Support and provide guidance to at least one volunteer-led committee dedicated to the operations of the Calgary Pride Parade and Festival.
  • Commit to a term of one year before standing for re-election.
  • Attend our annual general meeting in January.
  • Participate in ongoing community consultations.
  • Participate in professional development relevant to diversity, inclusion, equity and access as it relates to LGBTQ2S+ and anti-racist organizational learning.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven capability in building meaningful, collaborative relationships with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated advocacy for the LGBTQ2A+ community.
  • Aptitude to critically think, exercise diplomacy, and prioritize changing demands.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to appreciate unique experiences of queerness, particularly as this relates to intersectional barriers to access and inclusion.

Valuable Expertise:

  • Current on LGBTQ2A+ matters.
  • Diversity of lived experience.
  • Experience with non-profit boards or organizations.
  • Experience with strategic planning.
  • Experience with policy development.
  • Legal.
  • Accounting/Financial (Designated CPA).
  • Non-profit fund development.

Human Resources:

  • Event management.
  • Business administration.

Your cover letter should highlight relevant professional experience, familiarity with the LGBTQ2A+ community and why you are interested in joining the board. Calgary Pride strongly encourages individuals from historically marginalized communities to apply.

Volunteer board members are not paid for their time but are reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to their duties on the board. While we appreciate the interest of all applicants, only individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. Candidates must be available for an interview mid-end October. Applications not selected may be considered for a future position on an advisory council.

All board members will be required to attend a board development workshop on November 22, 6:00 to 9:00pm, November 23, 8:30am to 4:30pm, and November 24, 2019, 8:30 to 4:30pm.
