Call for Treaty 7 Artists

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

Submissions accepted until January 31, 2019.

The Trico Changemakers Studio is seeking contemporary and traditional art submissions from Treaty 7 Indigenous Artists to display within the Trico Changemakers Studio at Mount Royal University.

The Trico Changemaker Studio is a co-working and learning space on campus for students and community involved in addressing complex, social, economic, and environmental challenges.

The studio strongly believes in reconciliation and is actively working to build strong, respectful and reciprocal relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Canada. As such, the studio has been very intentional in acknowledging and celebrating Indigenous peoples from Treaty 7.

One way we hope to do so is by displaying the incredible work of Indigenous artists in our space and being sure to have representation from all Nations of Treaty 7, including the Piikani, Siksika, Kainai, TsuuT’ina, and Stoney Nakoda.

The studio aims to be an inclusive space on campus where all Changemakers can thrive. The studio also believes that artists are changemakers and that art has a way of transforming the spaces in which we operate.

Please submit a photo of a finished piece(s) for review. All visual forms of art are welcomed including, but not limited to; paintings, beadwork, photography, video stills, craftwork, graffiti, artifacts, etc.

Please note that artwork will be framed and high-resolution scans of pieces will also be considered.

Please include in your proposal the following materials:

  • Photo of artwork available for purchase (max of three pieces per artist).
  • Description of the art piece(s) submitted.
  • Artist biography, no more than 250 words (must include which Treaty 7 Nation you are from).

Selected artists will be paid up to $500 per piece.

Please send information by email to tricostudio@mtroyal.ca with Trico Changemakers Studio Art Submission in the subject line.
