The Works Art & Design Festival

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

The Works Art & Design Festival is now accepting submissions for one or two-artist shows, community programs, performances, and special events on the theme code.

When something is coded, it may be understood by many, or few. Code applies to computer programming languages, systematizing or streamlining information, restricting or permitting access, and intra-cultural communication.

Code is used to simplify, sublimate, or signify.

Proposals may consider art as communication; new technologies, implicit or explicit audience segmentation, symbols of belonging, and language.

Deadline: February 15, 2019, 5:00pm MST

Depending on the type of work proposed, fees range from $250 to $500.

For more information and to apply, visit theworks.ab.ca or email curatorial@theworks.ab.ca.

Festival Community Programs provide unique opportunities for emerging artists and designers to present their work
to the festival’s large, diverse audience and are also eligible for The Works Society’s year-round programs. The festival pays participants in Festival Community Programs a fee based upon a portion of the special funds raised by The Works for artist fees.

Event Program

Individuals or groups may apply to organize a lecture, performance, discussion panel, workshop or other special events during the festival. Applicants may opt to ticket their event, in which case the applicant is responsible for all ticket sales.
For non-revenue-generating events, participant/group will receive an artist honorarium of $250/event.

Group Exhibit Program

Groups can apply to produce an exhibition. Group shows must be curated prior to the application deadline. Artist honorarium is $500/exhibit.

Individual Artist and Two Artist Shows

Artists create their own exhibit. Artist’s proposal must include actual works to be exhibited. It is recommended that
exhibit proposals plan to show a minimum of 10 artworks if at a medium scale. Artist honorarium is $450/exhibit.
