Call to Artists

The GRAND welcomes performance-based artists to apply for the summer Performance Development Residency.

This week-long residency will offer selected artists/collectives access to The GRAND Studio to focus on the development of new or in-progress performance based works. Each selected artist or group will receive one week (7 days) private access to the space.

This program will culminate in a paid performance of the works-in-progress in a cabaret style performance in The GRAND’s Flanagan Theatre. Artist fees will be determined based on the total number of artists and duration of pieces.

The Summer Performance Development Residency aims to support artists who meet the following criteria:

  • Emerging to mid-career independent artists and artistic companies who have a project idea or an in-progress work that would benefit from incubation and/or rehearsal time in the GRAND’s Studio.
  • Artists working in a range of contemporary performance-based artforms (all disciplines welcome).
  • Visual arts proposals that are conducive to a performance space will also be considered (eg. photography, video).
  • Equity-deserving artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must demonstrate they are actively working towards developing their practice.
  • Availability for the final performance August 26th, 2022.
