Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for reliable casual studio assistants to support general program area monitoring for the 2020/21 academic year including: Glass Jewellery and metals Sculpture Ceramics Print Making This is a casual position commencing January 2021. Shifts may range from three to seven hours per day and assignments can be one to five days in duration depending on the task. Shift availability is evenings and weekday, and shifts are not necessarily regular or recurring. The Opportunity Competition #2021-NO-AC-15 Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in-studio support, preparation, monitoring, general maintenance, and equipment inventory as directed by the area educational art technician. The successful candidates will have: A BFA or BDes in the related discipline. Knowledge of a wide range of fine art, craft, and design production processes, related equipment and tools. Practical and technical skills in one or more of the following areas: such as basic carpentry, metalwork, mold making, metal casting, patching and painting walls, studio photography, glass blowing/casting, digital fabrication and electronics, jewellery making (including torch soldering, fold forming and metal casting). A willingness to learn new skills. Knowledge of standard safe working practices in one of the above areas, equipment operation, and correct lifting techniques. Ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Would be working on-site with mask requirements. As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this casual position pays an hourly rate of $17.34 and dues will be collected at a rate of 1.25% per pay. As this position is casual in nature, there will be no guarantee of hours or a regular schedule.
