Call to Artists February 21, 2023 Call for Indigenous Writers and Illustrators Are you an Indigenous writer or illustrator passionate about advancing Indigenous priorities, perspectives and world views? Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children in Canada? Would you like to see your work read by families across Canada and around the world and be featured in an online global free library celebrating the world’s diversity? If you answered yes, we want you to be a part of our original storybook series! As a writer, you will be responsible for creating stories (early readers) that delight children and explore priority themes identified by the communities we serve, including land-based activities such as ice fishing and maple syrup production, legends and teachings such as those of the Seven Grandfathers, Indigenous leaders such as water protector Autumn Peltier and world champion hoop dancer Lisa Odjig, and Indigenous hockey stars. As an illustrator, you will be responsible for creating illustrations that bring these stories to life. Qualifications: Identify as Indigenous. Exceptional writing or illustration skills. Passion for advancing Indigenous priorities, perspectives and world views. Talent for illustrating humans. A desire to create fun, original and dynamic stories that will delight young children.
