We acknowledge that the land we gather on, Mohkínsstsisi, is the ancestral territory of the Siksikaitsitapi — the Blackfoot people — comprising the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations, as well as Treaty 7 signatories, the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Îyâxe Nakoda Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations. Calgary Arts Development Authority is our city’s designated arts development authority. We provide grant investments to hundreds of arts organizations, individual artists, and groups. We value relationships, generosity, reciprocity, plain language, and curiosity.

The Role

We are recruiting a permanent full-time community investment manager to join our team. 

This role is responsible for the management of program specialists and grants coordinator in their direct administration of investment programs. The community investment manager reports to the director, community investment and impact, and ensures that the design and implementation of grant investment programs is in alignment with Calgary Arts Development’s strategic framework. This role is responsible for the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of community investment programs.

  • Oversight of all granting programs, in alignment with Calgary Arts Development’s strategic framework.
  • Direct supervision of program specialists and grants coordinator, providing mentorship, training, and support as needed, including co-creating accountability frameworks and conducting performance reviews.
  • To ensure that the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, Truth and Reconciliation and right relations with the First Nations, Metis, Inuit communities in Treaty 7 are embedded and considered in the design and implementation of the programs.
  • Ensure the granting and reporting processes, guidelines, criteria, and policies are straightforward, clear, transparent, and efficient.
  • Participating in meetings with the leadership and management team, and keeping the community investment team informed of Calgary Arts Development’s priorities, initiatives, and key messages.
  • Evaluate grant investment programs in collaboration with the director, community investment & impact, and impact team.
  • Work with the impact manager to provide timely reporting on investment practices and results to the leadership team and board of directors.
  • Remain aware of shifts and trends in the municipal, provincial, and federal funding landscapes and policy shifts related to arts funding.

You are passionate about the importance of the arts and creativity in our lives, and articulate in your belief in the power of the arts to transform our city. You have experience directly managing and supporting people in their work and professional development, and with program and project management. You are familiar with how both individual artists and arts organizations work within the sector, and have a deep curiosity for all the many different ways art is made and shared. You are interested in transforming funding practices and considering new ways of investing in the arts sector. You are focused on relationship building within the arts sector and cross-sectorally.

You are not all things to all people, but you are probably already a few of these things:

  • You are familiar with processes around art making, both traditional and contemporary.
  • You are well connected in the arts scene in Calgary.
  • You are enthusiastic about acting as a resource for artists and arts organizations, and are curious and diligent in your work.
  • You are committed to growing your awareness of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, and want to ensure that our systems reflect those values, but this is not new work for you.
  • You are familiar with the history of Treaty 7 and the First Peoples of this land, and have an awareness and understanding of the Truth & Reconciliation calls to action.
  • You are passionate about working with people, and interested in building relationships.
  • You are comfortable managing multiple projects, programs, and timelines concurrently.
  • You are familiar with processes around the administration of grant investment programs, including program design, and assessment and review processes.
  • You have experience with building and interpreting budgets and financial statements.
  • You are familiar with evaluation processes and practices.
  • You adapt quickly to using new technologies.
  • You are comfortable working in a flexible, collaborative, and open work environment.
  • You are a self-starter who is adaptable working both independently and with a team.
  • You’re a lifelong learner.

Minimum annual salary is $70,000 in addition to a benefits package that includes health and dental coverage, and a matching RRSP program.

Interview Parking

  • Applicants who must drive to an interview at our request are eligible to have their parking costs paid by Calgary Arts Development.
  • Maximum Contribution: $26 per interview, or the equivalent of the daily rate for parkades or parking meters that are close to the Calgary Arts Development office. Please note that currently all interviews are being conducted via Zoom.


  • Applicants who require childcare services in order to attend the interview are eligible to be reimbursed for those childcare expenses.
