Educational Opportunities October 2, 2023 Connecting Threads Dates: Saturday, October 7, 2023, 12 – 4pm: Workshop #1 Saturday, October 14, 2023, 12 – 4pm: Workshop #2 Cost: Free, adults & youth (12 years +) Join exhibiting artist asmaa al-issa and artists Stephanie Banszky and Sarah Russell for a two-part workshop series where we will have food, conversations, explore fibre arts such as screen printing and block printing, engage with natural materials, and create a collaborative printed tapestry about connection and community. asmaa al issa is the current exhibiting artist in Project Space. Standing attentive, here, on the land at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers, al-issa confines herself to the resources at hand as she generates physical artifacts reminiscent of a distant place. Using her limited knowledge of her first language, she translates texts, stories and impressions in the quest to map and rehabilitate her sense of the prized elements of a land once characterized by fertility and abundance. By meandering through histories and lived experiences, asmaa al-issa’s exhibition bab el-soosa | باب السوسة seeks guidance from the past in order to imagine a revived future.
