The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is a pillar of Calgary’s vibrant arts community and since 1955, has grown to be one of Canada’s most celebrated live music ensembles. Each Season, the CPO presents classical masterworks, pop favourites, bold collaborations, and cutting-edge new works.

Led by Music Director Rune Bergmann, the CPO consistently attracts world-renowned guest artists and dynamic conductors. The Orchestra welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually and, in 2017, launched its live-stream initiative—an immersive, digital concert experience for audiences around the world.

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is looking for Director, Marketing + Sales to join its leadership team in a seven-month term position covering a maternity leave. You will be a key member of the CPO administrative team and must demonstrate the core values of the CPO—professionalism, sound judgment, and ethics, to name a few.

Responsible for the implementation of all sales, marketing and communications for the CPO, the Director, Marketing + Sales leads a team of talented professionals in promoting concerts and events, developing the season brochure, driving print and online advertising and ensuring a consistent voice of the organization. The Director works with the Customer Relations team to drive ticket sales and community engagement.

The Director, Marketing + Sales reports to the President + CEO, and works collaboratively with the full administrative team, artist and production managers, and orchestra musicians.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Manage the Marketing + Sales team of seven full-time and five part-time employees.
  • Participate in regular senior leadership meetings and organizational decision-making process.
  • Mentor team members, provide positive support and build confidence.
  • Provide monthly marketing reports to senior leadership and board.
  • Collaborate with Development and Artistic Operations teams to ensure marketing campaign execution, and in support of CPO-wide success.

Marketing + Communications:

  • Manage budget and execution of the 2018/2019 season marketing campaign.
  • Oversee the creative vision, project management and copywriting of the 2019/20 season brochure.
  • Supervise the development and publication of Prelude Live magazine.
  • Collaborate in season planning with the artistic department, music director and musicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the communications strategy of the organization, leverage local, regional, national and international media.
  • Lead the creation and strategy to develop content for website, email, social media, digital platforms and fundraising donor initiatives.

Additional Details

Must be available to work beyond office hours including attendance at evening/weekend concerts and events throughout the season
