Job Opportunities July 27, 2023 Curator, History Job: Full-time term position Dates: October 2023 – July 2025, extension subject to fundingClosing Date: August 13, 2023Interview Dates: September 5 – 22, 2023Projected Start Date: October 16, 2023 Salary: CUPE Local 1645, Salary Grade 7, $2,411.48 – $3,055.13 bi-weekly The Opportunity Reporting to the manager, curatorial, with key relationships with the director, collections and curatorial, COO & VP, engagement, the curator, history brings knowledge in fashion, textiles and accessories. This position will work closely with Glenbow leadership and collections and curatorial staff in the development and stewardship of the history collections. The curator will develop concepts and themes for exhibitions that will engage existing and new audiences, contribute to public programs, collaborate with staff on history-related projects, publications and outcomes relevant to Glenbow’s vision, mission and strategic plan. Glenbow’s history collections focus primarily on southern Alberta, and more broadly on Canada, with some international content. The cultural history collections relate to settler life in southern Alberta, encompassing how people worked, lived, played and dressed, including a significant immigration collection. A sampling of significant collections includes those relating to immigration and ethnic diversity amongst settlers to 1960, fashion and textiles, the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, Canadian pressed glass and international collections relating to the search for Franklin. The military history collection features Canadian uniforms, medals, orders and decorations as well as equipment, along with some international collections, a firearm collection, and collections of medieval and Samurai armour.
