Director, Communications and Marketing

Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a director, communications and marketing to oversee and lead the University’s communication and marketing strategies.

This is a full-time permanent position starting as soon as possible. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day.

Reporting to the vice president, advancement, the director, marketing and communications provides broad oversight and leadership in the development of comprehensive marketing and communication strategies that enhance the university’s reputation, brand, visibility, and engagement that align with the university’s mission, vision, and values, and advance its strategic priorities. Working collaboratively and consultatively, the director uses a metrics-based approach to contemporary strategies and tools.

  • Degree in related field (marketing, communications, public relations, journalism) or a suitably equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in communications and/or marketing, with a minimum of five years of experience in a management role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in reputation and brand management.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing complex communication projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, collaborate and build relationships with internal and external groups.
  • Advanced writing, storytelling, editing skills and marketing skills.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary legislation, policies, and procedures is an asset.
  • Demonstrated accomplishment in digital strategy including the production and use of digital content is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working in post-secondary, public sector and/or a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Experience in non-profits and/or charities is an asset.
