Application Deadline: October 14, 2018, 11:59pm MST Start Date: Mid-December 2018/Early January 2019 Reports To: Executive Director Sled Island is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to join its dedicated leadership team. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing & Communications leads the development and execution of all strategic internal and external marketing and communications planning for the festival. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive festival marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with relevant departments. Lead and manage relevant staff and interns, including Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Media Partnerships & Advertising Coordinator, Community Partnerships Coordinator, Graphic Designers, Photo Crew Lead, Publicist, and Web Developers. Manage marketing budget, negotiate costs with suppliers and provide reports to the Executive Director on a regular basis. Write, edit and proofread items ranging from marketing copy to formal communications. Maintain website and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, Soundcloud, and others. Oversee the creation, production and distribution of all marketing collateral. Oversee the creation and placement of digital and print advertising. Develop key messages and manage media inquiries. Develop and manage media partnerships as well as community partnerships. Measure the impact of marketing initiatives and report regularly on progress. Undertake continuous analysis of marketplace and trends. Qualifications: Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. High level of comfort managing a large volume of work with tight deadlines. Demonstrated ability to execute strategic marketing and communications plans. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with versatility in writing items ranging from marketing copy to formal communications. Demonstrated ability to plan and monitor budgets. Experience managing a team, including staff and volunteers. Experience working with graphic designers and knowledge of basic print and digital design terminology required. Experience preparing key messages and managing media inquiries. Experience negotiating in-kind partnerships. Excellent technical skills, with a high level of proficiency in Google Docs, Google Analytics, Dropbox, Microsoft Office and all major social media platforms, plus a high level of comfort using a custom CMS. Able to work irregular hours as needed, including evenings and weekends. Knowledge of Sled Island, independent music and arts as well as Calgary’s arts community is an asset. Knowledge of and commitment to values of diversity, inclusion and safer spaces. Education and Experience: Minimum three years of experience in a marketing/communications management or related role, preferably in the arts and culture sector. Post-secondary degree in marketing, communications or a related field an asset. Sled Island offers a casual work environment and a flexible schedule.
