Disinformation Warriors is looking for a youth educator who will plan and facilitate an online discussion and education group to teach youth (13 to 17 years old) about how to become more critical about the information they read online, and for them to create an animation or art about that subject matter. (Animation instructor and art facilitator will be hired separately). Four education modules will be planned and delivered by the Disinformation Warrior educator using material that will be researched and developed by the content writers. The educator will attend team meetings with content writers and will provide feedback to the content writers (to ensure the presentation of their writing online and through lessons is effective for youth ages 13 to 17). Applicants should have experience and education in subject matter related to science, research, philosophy, education or psychology. Applicants should be passionate about teaching people about what makes information true and are enthusiastic about analyzing ways to find the truth, deduce truth and most importantly to criticize information that is being presented as truth. Educators will facilitate discussion circles and meetings with youth as part of four modules and will collaborate with team members on how to best present the information for youth and for the general public. Main Tasks for the Educator To plan and present four lessons to youth on topics that were researched by the content writers. Educators will take essays and research from the content writers and shape them into learning modules. Module development will take place through January. To deliver education modules online in February 2021 in once-a-week 1.5 to three hour sessions on Saturdays (possible extension into March/April). These modules should be constructed in a way that they can be re-used for the continuity of the project, and published online. Plan activities and facilitate discussions or book clubs to communicate and explore topics with youth participants. Discussions with the youth may influence the content that gets posted on the website. Ensure that the subject matter is presented in a way that is understandable for youth who are 13 to 17 years old. To meet and collaborate with the Disinformation Warrior team, and to communicate updates on ongoing work. To modify the education modules in response to youth feedback. Provide a written report evaluating the module presentation, and recommendations going forward. Timelines Applications accepted until December 20, 2020. Successful applicants will be notified by December 28, 2020. Team meetings take place January 2 to April 3, 2021 First Module Delivery: February 6, 2021 Second Module Delivery: February 13, 2021 Third Module Delivery: February 20, 2021 Fourth Module Delivery: February 27, 2021 Animation modules and art creation will take place In March, led by animation instructor and art facilitator (not part of this contract). After module delivery, the educator will provide feedback to content writers if writing needs modification for the intended audience and the general public. February 2021: After each module’s delivery, educator will provide feedback to content writers if writing needs modification for the intended audience and the general public. March 7, 2021: Written report evaluating educator role and program delivery, with recommendations for future application of lesson plans. The report will include references, source material, online resources used to teach the modules. March 12, 2021: Delivery of module materials for publication on the website. Compensation The educator will be paid $40 an hour to a maximum of 56 hours for the preparation of four education modules, and $40 an hour to a maximum of 24 hours for delivery and teaching of four modules, including reporting. Invoices submitted at the end of each month will be paid within two weeks of receipt of invoices.
