Elephant Artist Relief Society (EAR) established an annual fundraising event in 2017. Originally titled Sad Bastards Lonely Hearts Ball, this event was called Sad Bastards Bad Luck Ball in 2018, while the 2019 event has still to be named. The fundraiser will exhibit visual artworks that, in turn, will be auctioned with artists opting to retain fifty percent of the sale. The exhibit will culminate in a closing night event that includes live performances from poets, experimental performance artists, and a media art installation whom each receive an honoraria artist-fee. While the closing night event will be one night only, the exhibit will take place over the week prior, and interns are expected to perform follow-up tasks relating to their roles upon conclusion of the fundraiser. Duties will consist of two to five hours a week, with more hours concentrated closer to and during the launch of the fundraiser, and fewer hours required executing wrap-up duties.
