The Organization

The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) is an inclusive, non-profit, arts-based society that exists to fuel filmmakers, support storytellers and connect the cinematic community. CSIF’s vision is to be a destination community for independent film production, exhibition and people who love cinema. We value diversity, mentoring and “film geeks,” and promote a collaborative community culture with staff, volunteers and more than 300 members.

The Position

The CSIF equipment & rentals coordinator reports to the executive director and is responsible for managing the equipment rental fleet and program for our membership. This role would be ideal for a recent graduate or someone interested in the production side of the film industry.

Specific duties include:

  • You will be responsible for ensuring CSIF film production equipment and post-production facilities are up to date and reflect current advances in filmmaking technology, while also maintaining older technologies.
  • Ensuring the CSIF membership has access to CSIF film production equipment and post-production facilities through the administration of booking schedules and the CSIF project approval policy.
  • Working with the executive director to create, develop and implement seasonal workshop programs that provide CSIF members and the public with opportunities to develop proficiencies in their artistic and technical practices.
  • Working with the CSIF executive director and production committee to establish budgets, and maintain and purchase equipment.
  • Working with the CSIF executive director to ensure equipment, production and workshop related administrative tasks are accomplished, including: record keeping, databases, sub-ledgers and workshop documentation.
  • Working with the CSIF executive director to develop strategies for achieving the organization’s mission and making recommendations for developing and implementing policies.
  • Providing written activity reports stating requirements and any concerns to the CSIF board of directors at the regular monthly meetings of the board.
  • Attending all production committee meetings as required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

The following responsibilities are collaboratively performed with the production director, programming director, executive director and contract staff:

  • Researching and initiating fundraising activities, sponsorship opportunities and alternative revenue sources to support CSIF initiatives in conjunction.
  • Coordinating volunteers to perform tasks for CSIF activities related to operations activities.
  • Assisting with the supervision of part-time contract workers and internships.
  • Acting as a contact for general inquiries from the CSIF membership and the larger community.
  • Assisting with the development of special projects in collaboration with the CSIF board.
  • Encouraging participation in and creation of committees among the CSIF membership.
  • Day to day operations of the CSIF, including responding to inquiries (telephone, walk-in, e-mail, general reception), event planning and general cleanliness of the facility.

Experience in Canadian media arts, filmmaking and/or artist-run centres is not required, but considered an asset.

The position is full-time (35 hours/week) with an expectation to be available to work some Saturdays, as well as attend and support events held outside of regular business hours, as needed. CSIF offers three weeks of vacation (plus a two-week break from late December to early January).
