Everlyfe

The date for this opportunity has passed.

The three-week National Devised Theatre Intensive is only held every other year. The program is an intense three-week period in which artists from across Canada and the world answer the call from Ghost River Theatre to gather in Calgary and make something weird. Artists come from all different artistic backgrounds. Participants are playwrights, performers, designers… and this year there’s a dog.

While the intensive is intended to be a crash-course in navigating the high-octane race track of GRT’s creation process, there will be spectacle and imagination aplenty in this year’s showcase piece: Everlyfe.

Silicon Valley wunderkinds, Everlyfe, have recently released cutting-edge tech that promises not only eternal life, but the capacity to resurrect formerly deceased consciousnesses. Soon thereafter, a renowned but long-dead composer begins making mysterious appearances at underground clubs, garnering a devout cult following, and sending the social media landscape into a total tizzy. Celebrities and devotees alike prepare to attend the ultimate live event, wherein the revived composer will debut their first new piece in nearly two centuries. And then everything starts going horribly awry.

Everlyfe: For Every Life

The show and the creation process are led by GRT’s Artistic Director, Eric Rose, and long-time GRT collaborator and playwright, Jason Rothery. Everlyfe is devised and performed by the 2019 intensive cohort.
