Feats (June 27 to July 7, 2018) is a provincial dance and movement arts festival held in Edmonton. Feats foster and showcase Albertan artists. There are opportunities for solo artists and companies/ ensembles to present work and to teach. Each year the festival is shaped by our theme and the applications we receive. This Artist Application is open to all disciplines. One application can contain multiple works, and a submission to teach a workshop or masterclass. We produce ticketed mainstage events, a dance-film screening night, choreographer mentorship program, various site-specific and free public events, registered and drop-in masterclasses and workshops and various creation-based professional and youth dance intensives. This year’s theme, Foot Prints—dancers’ unique stories told through movement—focuses on crossing boundaries, intersectionality, and striving to discover new and challenging forms of physical expression. From ballet to hip hop, contemporary to Indigenous, folk, and social dance is a storyteller. Movement becomes the language, the body is the medium, for the story to emerge and speak to the heart of the observer. This year’s theme seeks to create a scaffold to encourage understanding and inquiry from the audience in conversation with meaningful and compelling dance from Albertan artists. Everyone who applies must be a member of the Alberta Dance Alliance. If you are not yet a member your membership fee can be paid when you submit the form (PayPal/Credit Card via PayPal gateway). Feats welcome opportunities for partnerships generally and certainly with organizations running concurrent dance and arts-related events. We entertain the possibility for co-production and co-promotion of dance artists presenting in or touring through, Edmonton during the festival time frame.
