Femme Wave is looking for a dedicated volunteer to curate film programming for the 2019 festival.

Role Description

Working with the Artistic Directors, Festival Manager and Board of Directors, the Femme Film Curator will develop a vision for Femme Wave film programming that is in line with the festival’s mission, vision and values.

The role will focus on three objectives to deliver quality, diverse programming:

  • Research and prepare a suitable process of film selection.
  • Ensure films are accessible and all tech requirements are met at venue.
  • Maintain Femme Wave standards of diversity and inclusiveness.

Role Duties:

  • Develop a list of potential filmmakers or specific films to screen at the festival, using a submission process or individual selection.
  • Coordinate with film venue(s) to ensure all screening needs are met.
  • Develop online content about the film programming.
  • Coordinate screening rights and contracts with filmmakers.
  • Acquire screener copies of films and prepare a master screener in formats appropriate to the venue needs, with backups if needed.
  • Work with other film organizations in Calgary to ensure relationships are maintained and resources are respected and/or shared.
  • Work within a designated budget laid out by the Board and report on the finances of the programming.
  • Responsible for coordination and transportation of screens, projectors, chairs and other materials.

Requirements:

  • Deeply passionate about film, particularly feminist film.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of film culture in Calgary.
  • Research, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience with social media administration and graphic design an asset.

The Femme Film Curator will work from February 2019 to January 2020, with the possibility of extension. Time commitments will vary and increase into October and November 2019, when the festival takes place but will average five to 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible and will vary. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
