Femme Wave is looking for a dedicated volunteer to assist in curating the visual arts portion of the 2020 festival.

The festival runs from November 5 to November 8, 2020.

Role Description

Working with the current visual arts curators, artistic and executive director, as well as the board of directors, the visual arts co-curator will develop a vision for Femme Wave arts programming and manage submissions, selection and installation processes.

The role will focus on three objectives to deliver quality, diverse programming.

  • Research and prepare a suitable submissions call that communicates Femme Wave values, mission and vision.
  • Ensure submissions calls have a wide reach and are highly accessible to the communities.
  • Maintain Femme Wave standards of diversity and inclusiveness.

Job Duties:

  • Research and secure suitable venues for Femme Wave Arts programming.
  • Develop a call for submissions, ensure its release is broad and manage the selection process.
  • Liaise with selected artists and venues for installations.
  • Assist in developing online content for selected artists.
  • Work with the marketing team to develop arts press releases, media inquiries and other materials that may be required.
  • Working within the Femme Wave arts budget, and secure more funding if desired.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of arts scene in Calgary and area, multimedia disciplines preferred.
  • Great attitude, management skills and a self-starter.
  • Background in non-profit or festival organizations is an asset.

The visual arts co-curator will work from March 2020 to January 2021, with the possibility of extension. Time commitments will vary and increase in June and July for the selection process, and October and November when the festival takes place. Hours are flexible and will vary. There is a small honorarium for this position.

Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival. The festival takes place annually in November across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run organization with board and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds.
