Festivals and Events Update

As the COVID-19 pandemic eases and reopening planning begins, The City is making a Festivals and Events Microgrant with a total of $75,000 available to support the delivery costs of local festivals and events this summer.

Last year the previous edition of the Festivals and Events Microgrant program funded more than 30 organizations who hosted successful events during the pandemic.

For this round of Microgrant funding, organizations planning an arts, culture, sports or recreation event between June 11 and September 30, 2021, can apply for up to $4,500 in support of event delivery costs.

Visit the Festivals and Events Microgrant page for complete details and an application.

New Guidebook

Thanks to the work of RISE UP, a group dedicated to kickstarting Calgary’s arts and culture industry recovery, they have completed a COVID Protocols Guidebook for the Arts Sector and Live Events that is now available. The 45-page resource provides great information to help event planners create operational plans and safety protocols.

Ask your City Event Liaison for a link to the document—it will be available on riseupyyc.com soon.

Planning and Development

The City’s Planning and Development is deferring and/or waiving fee payments in 2021 to enhance flexibility on building permits. This means financial flexibility to manage cash flow through projects, and align fees closer to when revenues are being realized, as well as extensions on any upcoming expiry windows. This will ensure approvals do not expire while businesses deal with impacts of COVID-19.

For more information, visit the Planning and Development service changes page.

Calgary Transit

As events are planned through the summer of 2021, Calgary Transit will work to support event crowds by adding extra vehicles, when they are available, and schedule additional staff and services at the cost of the event (costs will be charged to the event organizer) as required.

We are doing our best to get all the information we need to support you and the events you are trying to plan and host.
