The Folk Festival Society of Calgary (FFSC) seeks an enthusiastic, organized and people-focused team player to be its new Volunteer Services Associate. The FFSC presents music from contemporary and traditional folk genres, including the summer Calgary Folk Music Festival, winter Block Heater, seasonal concert series and year-round activities. We are a music-driven, not-for-profit, community-based organization. A leader in Calgary’s arts sector, we are fuelled by 13 staff and 2,000 volunteers. The FFSC Volunteer Program is one of Calgary’s most thorough and complex and touches every experience point of our cultural events. Our organization has been able to successfully operate year-round with our volunteers’ generous sweat equity of over 50,000 hours of physical and intellectual labour. This is a full-time one (1) year contract position, which requires flexibility in scheduling. Reporting to the volunteer manager, and working closely with all departments, the ideal candidate is an excellent team player and high-capacity administrator with exceptional database and interpersonal skills. Key Activities and Responsibilities Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Administrate, facilitate and maintain volunteer communications through e-newsletters, social media channels, website, scheduling and email. Operate the volunteer program’s data management systems, including the collection and documentation of new volunteer applications, certification, applicable correspondence and performance evaluations. Update volunteer content on the FFSC website. Assist the volunteer manager with setup, presentation and strike of all-volunteer events. Working closely with the event supervisor, supervise all Festival Hall volunteers during concerts and events. Ongoing reviews of operations and identify areas of improvement and concern. Other duties as required. Requirements The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, energetic team player, preferably with a minimum of one to two years of work experience in the arts, office administration and customer service. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving abilities. Personable, with exceptional communication, customer service and time management skills. Demonstrated good judgment in unusual and uncertain situations. Comfortable speaking in front of groups as well as a one-on-one environment. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Ability to participate in some physical labour (ie loading gear, setting up chairs). Knowledge of the not-for-profit environment, and an appreciation of music and the performing arts. Ability to manage periods of intense activity and high stress. Experience using Google Suite or Microsoft Word, comfortable working in a Mac environment.
