The Technical Director for Ghost River Theatre’s upcoming production of GIANT will be a critical leader, responsible for heading in-house rehearsals, technical operations, show transfer for the Festival of Animated Objects.

They will advise on all technical strategies, schedules, and budgets for GIANT. Reporting to the Producer and General Manager and all budget manners. This individual should be a pro-active leader who supervises work while building engagement and trust with colleagues through clear communication, shared comprehension and consistent follow-through.

The TD must be able to understand the processes of different collaborators and empathize with their needs while adhering to Ghost Rivers schedules, budgets, values, procedures and policies. This individual’s interpersonal skills and judgment are critical in ensuring the entire production team is successful and supported throughout the process on a pro-active basis.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical production logistics, rehearsal facilitation, and artistic vision support.
  • Technical direction and advancement for Festival of Animated Objects.
  • Performer and equipment safety protocols development and management.
  • Collaboration with the AD and outside professionals in the technical design, drafting, engineering and fabrication of Company prototypes and finished equipment.
  • Supervise technical staff as required.
  • Provide technical support for designers and artists.
  • Maintain a production quality of the highest standard.

Qualifications/Required Skills:

  • Professional experience in technical direction with a strong working knowledge of all areas of technical production.
  • Thorough understanding of structural and mechanical construction for the stage, both materials and techniques, including rigging.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, high energy, creativity, a collaborative spirit, and the cultural sensitivity needed to work effectively in a diverse environment of artists, creative and management teams.
  • Experience producing and supporting work in non-traditional theatrical environments.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.
  • A passion for the performing arts and the desire to be part of a vibrant arts community.
  • Strong project and people management skills.
  • Dynamic and outgoing personality with sound judgment, tact and discretion.
  • Professional manner and a can-do attitude, with the ability to think on your feet and adapt quickly to change.
  • Excellent attention to detail, budgets, timelines, and objectives.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Products and database software an asset.
  • Creativity to develop innovative solutions; knowledge of special events trends within the cultural sector.
  • Ability to both works independently and in a team environment as well as the ability to both take and give direction effectively.
