Calgary International Children’s Festival (Kidsfest) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that welcomes over 50,000 Calgarians annually to Olympic Plaza and Arts Commons to enjoy the very best of theatre for young audiences from all over the world. The festival has grown to become one of the most prominent arts festivals of its kind in Canada and the largest presenter of theatre for young people in Calgary. The organization currently employs more than 200 performing artists, administrative staff, technicians and theatre venue personnel over the course of each year.

As a vital contributor to the cultural landscape of our community, Kidsfest offers children, parents, and teachers an experiential and educational environment for imagination, growth, and creative expression.

Kidsfest is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced team player to fill the seasonal contract position of Hospitality Coordinator. The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for food ordering, prep, service and clean-up for Kidsfest artists and volunteers throughout the festival week. The Hospitality Coordinator will also set and maintain a welcoming and hospitable environment for the artist and volunteer lounges.

This is a seasonal position that will run from May 16 to 26, 2018.

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Pre-Festival:

  • Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator and Curator to determine hospitality needs for both volunteers and artists.
  • Create a shopping plan and budget to obtain necessary grocery items (strictly adhere to the budget as outlined in the 2017/18 Business Plan and Budget).
  • Shop for all grocery items.
  • Accountable for the accurate reporting and documentation of all expenditures, including the submission of receipts and purchase orders.
  • Liaise with Arts Commons (AC) Development and Event Services teams on all catering and hospitality planning.
  • Request volunteers from the Volunteer Coordinator or Assistant Volunteer Coordinator.

Festival Week:

  • Daily food prep including the upkeep and replenishing of all volunteer and artist lounge spreads.
  • Review artist dressing room requirements daily and ensure all requests are met as per artist contracts.
  • Ensure all food safety practices are met.
  • Communicate with the General Manager to arrange for assistance from CICF drivers and crew, as required.
  • Obtain any required liquor licenses.
  • Attend all daily staff meetings during the festival and post-mortem meeting.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have strong planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills, and should be diplomatic and able to communicate effectively with volunteers, artists, patrons, and different levels of staff. Due to the fact that the candidate will be working amongst youth, a Police Security check is required.

Additional qualifications and position requirements include:

  • Food safety certification
  • Basic first aid
  • Able to work effectively in mobile situations while moving between various festival spaces.
  • Ability to work with volunteers in an effective and friendly manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • ProServe Certification an asset.

Applicants should also be aware of the following working conditions and physical requirements associated with performing the duties of the position:

  • Lifting and movement of festival equipment and supplies, up to 20lbs.
  • Irregular and extended work hours, as required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Use of personal vehicles may be required.
