Archived March 4, 2022 Indigenous Mural Project The Town of Canmore invites self-identifying First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists and artist teams living or working on Treaties 6, 7, or 8, and on the unceded territory of what is now known as British Columbia to submit their qualifications and proposals for the design of an exterior site-specific mural. The Canmore area, known as Chuwapchipchiyân Kudi Bi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as shooting at the willows), is located within the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda), comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations; the Tsuut’ina First Nation; and the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai. The area is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.
