Our earth provides us with everything we need to survive, like air to breathe and material to build our shelters, but it also provides us with amazing inspiration for creating beautiful art.
Motion Gallery invites visual artists to an open call for the new July art show and sale, Inspired by Nature. Painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and sculpture will be accepted.
This show is open to anyone, new and established artists are encouraged to submit their work, as this is a not for profit artist run gallery (cooperative) that helps Calgary artists get established by providing a venue and some wall space to showcase their work. Artists can submit up to eight (pieces must be no larger than a 2×3’ area per piece unless cleared by one of our gallery directors) for the month-long show. This exhibit is for artwork created any time, and art should be somehow tied to the theme of nature.
Important Notes
- Online registration for submission deadline is June 25, 2019.
- Art drop-off will be Wednesday, June 26, or Friday, June 28, 2019, both from 6:00 to 8:00pm, either day you must come with the signed contract and labelled artwork. Artists will be needed to volunteer to rehang and June 28 and or Saturday, June 29, 2019.
- Public artist’s reception will be Saturday, July 13, 2019, from 3:00 to 7:00pm, there will be a Stampede BBQ and art sale at which artists are expected to volunteer and attend.
- Artists participating will also have a chance to plan their own events if they want to invite their own groups to the gallery.
- There will be nature-inspired art workshops on July 14 and 21, 2019.
- The exhibition will run from Saturday, July 2 to 31, 2019.
- Art can be picked up Wednesday, July 31 or Friday, August 2, 2019, between 6:00 to 8:00pm, art not picked up will be stored for 30 days and then it will be forfeited to the gallery.
- Artists payment will be made within 3 weeks of event end.
Buy-in for the event will be on per painting entry, $30 per painting, $20 per painting for members of New Motion Gallery Society. Membership is $40.
All artwork must be wired properly with D rings, and ready to hang, absolutely no clip frames and saw tooth hangers will be accepted (liability). Artwork can be wired for you at $10 per piece. All art must be available for purchases, should be originals, any prints of original work must be labelled as prints. Artists will be required to volunteer at least one two hour session during the month of the event. Artists should be available during the receptions.
The gallery will retain 25% of the sale as the gallery commission, Artists will receive 75% of sales. Any work not picked up will be stored for 30 days, if not picked up it will then be forfeited to the gallery.
Contract, art details, and tags must be brought to the gallery with your work at drop off times, payment must be received by June 25, 2019, late entries will be charged a late entry fee of $20. There’s is limited space for this show, early registration is recommended.
