Location: Atelier Artista, cSPACE King Edward (4th Floor, 1721 – 29 Ave. SW)
Dates: Thursdays, eight-week session, October 18 – December 6, 2018
Time: 12:30 – 3:30pm
Cost: $350 (early registration fee $300 due by October 15, 2018)

This class is limited to eight participants.

This Course Will Cover:

  • A thorough grounding on the trinity of watercolour, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, plus glazing.
  • Colour mixing, using a full palette of permanent light-fast colours.
  • Colour theory, colour exploration.
  • Composition, emphasizing the focal point.
  • Information on brushes, papers, palettes, easels, paints (opaque and transparent), knowledge on the order of application, finishes, framing.

  • Manipulating light and dark
  • Interpreting and finish

What to Expect:

This course will provide a fundamental approach to watercolour, for beginner to intermediate students, with an emphasis on transparency, colour mixing, brushwork and washes. Students will work from still-life, photo reference of landscape, portraits and master copy. Ample painting time will follow the daily demo with a critique towards the end of each class.

We will explore the works of Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, Charles Demuth, and others.
