Volunteer Opportunities January 9, 2023 Instructor, Virtual Length of Term: Project-based (2 – 3 months) Time Commitment: 2 – 4 hours/week Project: Story writing with teens Term: Volunteer Purpose of the Position The instructor role plays a crucial part in our Story Writing with Teens project and reports directly to the project manager. The instructor will be directly involved in communicating with the teens and helping them with every step of the program ranging from assisting teens in story writing to helping teens communicate better with the children. The instructor will also be involved in the planning of the training program as well as facilitating public meetings. Thus, the instructor role requires candidates to be patient and helpful to the teens and children but also be detailed-oriented and have great time management and organization skills to successfully execute the project. Duties and Responsibilities Participate in the planning of the training program for students: instructions, documents and meetings. Assist students during public meetings and ensure the conversations with the children in the public are safe and professional. Direct, advise and offer support to students in the story-writing process over the designated period of time. Evaluate the final submission. Provide updates to the project manager and board members over the time of the engagement. Organize live events and take care of the logistics such as timeline and attendance sheet. Ensure technical support and troubleshoot technical issues during live public events. Qualifications Proved knowledge and/or experience in children’s story writing. Interest in youth education. Integrity, teamwork, community, creativity and humour are mandatory values. Experience working with youth and children is preferred. Past events organizing experiences will be considered as an asset Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team. Great time management and organization skills.
