Archived September 13, 2018 Itty Bitty Arts Days: A Teddy Bear Picnic Let loose with your little one at Itty Bitty Arts Day: A Teddy Bear Picnic, an open-house art-party for the very young. Babies, toddlers and young children explore an immersive forest environment complete with theatre, music, dance, and art activities, providing everything you need to play, learn, and explore together. Hosted by your friends at Arts Commons and a couple of singing, dancing teddy bears! Arts Commons is looking for wonderful volunteers to take on different roles for our Itty Bitty Arts Day event. Here are the descriptions for the roles we have available: Family Room Host Shifts: 9:00am – 12:00pm 1:00 – 4:00pm Responsibilities The Family Area is space for families in need of amenities, e.g. changing facilities, feeding space, unstructured play space. The host volunteer will welcome families, provide directions, monitor the room, re-stock supplies as necessary and complete other duties as required. Things to Consider: This volunteer will be on their feet and will have opportunities to sit down during their shift. There will be busy periods and quiet periods, so volunteers may want to bring a book or magazine for down periods. All activities occur indoors, so weather appropriate clothing is not necessary. The volunteer should bring any water bottle/snacks they require. Experience working with young children is highly encouraged. Volunteers will need to have an up-to-date vulnerable persons check. Valet Stroller Parking & Baby Bag Helper Shifts: 9:00am – 12:00pm 1:00 – 4:00pm Responsibilities The Engineered Air Theatre is where the main events of Itty Bitty Arts Day are occurring, however, the upper and lower lobby areas are separated by a large flight of stairs. To assist families, we are offering free ‘valet’ stroller parking! Families are invited to check their stroller at the entrance of the Engineered Air Theatre with our volunteers. Volunteers will tag the stroller and any other items the family may want to leave and provide the family with the corresponding tag(s). Strollers and other items are to be deposited in the EAT coat check—and if space runs out, in an area designated in the Arts Learning Centre. We expect some families may require help with bringing items from the upper lobby to the lower lobby area, and our volunteers will be expected to lend an extra helping hand to those families that require it. Things to Consider: This volunteer will be on their feet climbing stairs—comfortable shoes should be worn and volunteers should expect to climb the stairs multiple times during the event… get your steps in! There will be busy periods and quiet periods, so volunteers may want to bring a book or magazine for down periods. All activities occur indoors, so weather appropriate clothing is not necessary. The volunteer should bring any water bottles/snacks they require. Experience working with young children is highly encouraged. Volunteers will need to have an up-to-date vulnerable persons check. Craft Activity Host Shifts: 9:00am – 12:00pm 1:00 – 4:00pm Responsibilities The lower level of the Engineered Air Theatre will be full of different craft activities for young ones and families to participate in. Craft Activity Host volunteers will be expected to explain the craft to young ones and families, lead the activity while ensuring young ones are given the space they need to create as they see fit, re-stock supplies as necessary, and keep the general area as tidy as possible. Things to Consider: This volunteer will be interacting with a significant amount of young children with different levels of ability. There will be busy periods and quiet periods, but there will likely not be enough downtime to enjoy a book or magazine. Experience working with young children is highly encouraged. Volunteers will need to have an up-to-date vulnerable persons check. All activities occur indoors, so weather appropriate clothing is not necessary. The volunteer should bring any water bottles/snacks they require. If you are interested, please send an email to Celina Vides, Volunteers Specialist, at cvides@artscommons.ca.
