Itty Bitty Arts Days

From first steps to six-years-old, Arts Commons is invested in creating meaningful opportunities for very young children and their families to connect and socialize in a unique and playful way. Itty Bitty Arts Days is an Arts Commons signature event that transforms the Engineered Air Theatre into an open-house art-party designed for babies, toddlers and young children.

We are currently seeking performing and visual artists to participate in our upcoming Itty Bitty Arts Days: An Alice in Wonderland Tea Party on September 27 abd 28, 2019.

Specifically, we are seeking artists to fill the following roles:

  • Two performing artists to provide character roving, short staged vignettes, and interactive workshop activities (developed under the direction of education associate Jenny Peters).
  • One to two performing artists to provide pieces featuring music, dance, drama or interdisciplinary content suitable for young children that would fit with an Alice in Wonderland theme. These artists will also be required to lead educational activities for the interactive portion of the event.
  • A visual artist to create and execute a themed environment for Engineered Air Theatre, and support visual arts-based activities for the event.

Timeline:

  • Deadline to apply is June 17, 2019.
  • Auditions/interviews will take place June 21, 2019, at Arts Commons—must register to audition/interview.
  • Project kick-off and team orientation meeting July 3, 2019, 3:30 to 4:30pm at Arts Commons.
  • Project development/rehearsals with performing artists August 28 to 30, 2019 (daytime). Dates may vary for the visual artist.
  • Tech and dress rehearsals September 25 and 26, 2019 (daytime and evening).
  • Performances are on September  27 and 28, 2019 (morning and afternoon).

Ideal Candidates will Have:

  • A passion for, and specialization in theatre for young audiences
  • Experience working in arts-based education with young children ranging from babies to approximately age six.

Compensation:

  • Performing Artists: $600– $800
  • Visual Arts Specialist/Environment Designer: $1,000 – $1,600
