How to Paint Basic Block and Casual
Date: March 18 & 19, 2023
In this two-day workshop, learn how to paint letters the old-school way! Learn directly from Jennifer Konanz, who brings her 10 years of lettering and sign painting experience from all around the globe with her to this fun introductory class teaching two of the foundational alphabets of sign painting. This class is for anyone from beginners to intermediates — from anyone who hasn’t touched a lettering brush before to someone who has some lettering experience.
All materials are provided!
You will leave this class knowing:
- Basic brush care and sign painting materials
- How to create a scratch layout and how to paint a block and casual alphabet
- Basic letter structure
- How to handle the brush and paint, make basic strokes
- How to work with both water based and oil based media
You will leave this class with:
- One sign painter’s quill (brush) — for water-based paints
- One sign painter’s quill (brush) — for oil-based paints
- Printed reference material hand-picked from Jennifer’s book collection
- Two full-size alphabet posters which you’ll use to practice from
- A painted word on aluminum panel done on day two along with all your painted practice sheets
- One custom-designed Konanz & Co. T-shirt (or trade your shirt in for a hat at the workshop)
- Bag of additional free surprises to take home with you
We will also be doing a raffle at the end of class with winners being drawn for the workshop poster artwork, Jennifer’s painted class example sheets, sign painting books, and more!
