Silk Textile Painting

With Cydney Mariel Galbraith

This deadline for this opportunity has passed.

Join us for a freeing and liberating workshop with Cydney Mariel Galbraith, designer and founder of Love’s Pure Light Luxury Silks Canada fashion brand. Artists of all levels can learn to break the rules and free flow with colours on luxury fabrics! We will explore a few techniques of silk painting on scarves or silk garments using special dyes and paints.

Cydney will start with the basic French serti technique using guttas and resists. We will also explore freehand silk painting, splashing colours, using salt, and bringing forth a new found creative identity in all that attend.

Believe it or not—the less experience, the better! You only need to have a passion for fashion and colours. Come ready to dream big and see your passion manifest through a luxury fashion shawl or garment. Looking for a great gift idea for Easter or Mothers Day? Make one yourself! Cydney will bring various sizes of silk shawls, and also a few blouses if you’re interested in painting a silk blouse.

Artists will learn what it is to create a legacy garment. Cydney encourages her guests to come with a word that is meaningful in their heart, a statement a declaration or promise that you want to see come alive in your luxury garment/shawl you will create. Think of that precious word you know is spoken over your life. Love? Legacy? Destiny? What does it look like?

The paints and materials we will be using flow like watercolours, and we will also touch on embellishing techniques, such as adding gold and luminous details onto the fabrics. Come with a stencil to trace, or bring your favourite picture for inspiration. If this shawl were something you were to pass on to someone, what would it look like and what significant components would it have? We will create a forever garment. This creative day will be a day we make history.
