The 20th Anniversary Calgary International Film Festival takes place September 18 to 29, 2019, in the heart of Calgary.

Spread throughout Eau Claire (8th Ave. SW) and the East Village, the festival showcases 200 of the year’s most groundbreaking and must-see films from around the world—each handpicked by our expert programming team for Calgarians to enjoy. With additional fun, engaging activities held across the twelve days, the Calgary International Film Festival goes beyond just watching a film, giving moviegoers a unique chance to connect with one another, and filmmakers, over their love of film and enjoy remarkable experiences together!

Role

The Marketing Assistant supports the implementation of marketing campaigns and plans throughout the year. The Marketing Assistant assists with promotions, production and distribution of marketing materials and outreach activities; and supports efforts to diversify audiences, foster community relationships and build awareness of the festival’s year-round offerings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in planning the marketing campaigns and initiatives throughout the year.
  • Support the Marketing Director in the execution of marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain the Calgary Film website (creating and updating news, events and blogs) and track Google analytics.
  • Assist the Digital Marketing Specialist with social media monitoring and digital ad buys, especially during the festival.
  • Assist in the design, printing, ordering and inventory for marketing collateral and branding items.
  • Oversee the distribution of marketing materials such as posters/flyers through various street teams.
  • Assist in the execution of promotions including contests, special offers, promo codes, promo booths, etc. both leading up to and during the festival.
  • Coordinate supplier contracts and deliver required marketing assets.
  • Grow and maintain relationships with community groups and other partners throughout the year.
  • Prospect and secure new partners and initiatives that help grow audiences and meet objectives.
  • Work closely with other departments to meet their marketing needs.
  • Collaborate with Box office team regarding community partner ticketing needs, and other general box office support.
  • Support the Marketing Director with box office analytics and metrics.
  • Work with the appointed PR agency to ensure the festival is included in and accurately referenced in all third-party event listings and event calendars, including Wikipedia and similar.
  • Oversee marketing-focused festivalscape activities during the festival (such as promotions and installations in the lobby).
  • Collaborate with Venue Coordinators as needed to support smooth operations of large community group attendance.
  • Provide copy and support content collection for the annual public Festival Report.
  • Provide detailed post mortem notes and archived files (hard and electronic) relevant to the position and the work accomplished following the festival.
  • Contribute to departmental post-mortem analysis and report.

Qualifications

  • Outstanding collaborator and team player.
  • At least two years of experience, or post-secondary education in, marketing and/or media relations.
  • Experience and/or interest to develop skills in social media.
  • Experience and/or interest to develop skills in graphic design; experience with Adobe Suite and/or Canva considered an asset.
  • Experience using content management systems/the backends of websites (no coding experience required).
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, including a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to learn quickly, especially regarding the festival’s programming, so as to be an effective representative to community groups and other key partners.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Personable, sociable and comfortable acting as a festival ambassador.
  • Adept relationship builder.
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends especially during the festival.

Employment Type: Permanent, part-time
Start Date: June 19, 2019, or as negotiated
Salary/Fee: Commensurate with experience
Hours: Variable throughout the year

Estimated average of 10 hours per week from November to June; 24 hours per week in July; full time in August and the first half of September, and full time and above during the festival (September 19 to 30), which includes long days, evenings and weekends on-site; and 16 hours per week in October. Involves evenings and weekends, especially during the festival.
