Musical Theatre Creation

Theatre Alberta and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity present Musical Theatre Creation with Lisa Lambert and Bob Martin, in partnership with Alberta Playwrights’ Network.

Participants in this workshop will learn methods and practice skills for developing original musicals. Topics will include the relationship between book writer and lyricist, the importance of identifying and embracing a personal approach, and original work vs. adaptations (and the challenges each pose).

This workshop is for experienced playwrights and theatre creators with a strong interest in musical theatre creation. Individual artists, as well as those working as part of a writing team, are welcome to apply. Songwriting experience is an asset but not a requirement. Participants are asked to bring work-in-progress material to discuss in the class and to present to the instructors for feedback. Material may include written work, concepts, or ideas for a new musical.

Deadline to Register: January 23, 2019
