As a creativity hub for artists living with disabilities, so often limited in their opportunities and choices, we blur the lines between professional artists, disabled artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, and storytellers by sharing their work internationally and re-shaping how the world views and appreciates their talents and place in our communities.

Who You Are

A highly motivated creator with an established creative skill set and a desire to work in both the arts and disability communities. You are passionate about helping other artists achieve their visual arts goals, in all elements of the artistic process, and are committed to ensuring that creative decisions made by our artists are theirs and theirs alone. You will support the artists’ learning of specific mediums while accounting for their unique abilities. As part of our creative team, you will assist with the development of digital/online facilitation while ensuring proper safety protocols, participating in team planning sessions, and supporting the National accessArts Centre (NaAC) at events and community programming.

Reporting to the associate manager, studio, you will work as part of a team committed to the advancement of our artists in our self-directed studio, both in-person and online, and seek to deliver outstanding opportunities.

  • Artist Support – Participate in artist assessment, goal planning and workshop development; understand and
    support artists’ needs; guide artists to identify goals and conceptualize new works; assist with the creation of
    individualized artist training plans.
  • Studio Operations –Share the responsibility of ensuring the studio is clean, safe, and equipped to meet the needs of our artists and their projects; ensure any suspected mental or physical health challenges are appropriately reported.
  • Assist with Exhibitions & Events – Provide the necessary support for all of the NaAC exhibitions and events, including set up/tear down; hanging art works.

Your Experience & Skills

  • Established creative skill set in ceramics.
  • Certified or significantly experienced knowledge of kiln operations and safety is an significant asset.
  • Mature attitude; ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
  • A strong team player with a mature attitude and ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (asset).
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Zoom facilitation.

Pay, Hours, Working Environment

  • $22 to $25/hour based on qualifications
  • Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:30pm (some evenings/weekends)
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) will be provided.
  • Training in anti-racism will be provided as designed by Future Ancestors—includes recommended tactics in
    acknowledging harm, restorative conflict resolution, and active listening.

Eligibility: You must be legally able to work in Canada.
