Photography Practicum

The application deadline for this opportunity has passed.

As part of the photo services team, photography practicum participants learn through exposure to a wide range of projects under the supervision and mentorship of Banff Centre staff and faculty.

What does the Program Offer?

Practical skills are developed through exposure to all types of photography and to different areas of Banff Centre including the arts, leadership, mountain culture, and conference business.

This unique position allows each individual to gain real-world experience in a high production environment where the quality of work and level of service are paramount. These skills will be applied in-studio and on-location for diverse Banff Centre projects. The program strives to fill in the gaps left after formal education by providing a real-world work environment with training and skill-building.

Who Should Apply?

Do you have a keen interest in a career in photography, a willingness to learn, and a desire to broaden your experience? If yes, we’d love to hear from you!

As well as being passionate about photography, applicants should have formal training or education in photography as well as an understanding of all the basics of composition and exposure, and lighting for studio and location. Applicants should be familiar with a variety of cameras and have experience using Photoshop or other image processing programs.

Although participation in this program will enhance the technical skills of any photographer, those interested in pursuing a career in commercial photography will find this program especially valuable. Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing are essential.

Photographers from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, with a special invitation to individuals of Indigenous descent.
