The date of this workshop has passed.

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, three Calgary-based Polynesian instructors are coming together to offer a half-day workshop for Hawaiian hula, Tahitian dance, and Hawaiian language basics.

The instructors for the day are:

• Taraya – NalaniDance
• Paula – Dance Through Life
• Jim – Pirate Jim’s Ukulele Shack

The event will take place in the Grand Oak Ballroom, Evergreen Community SPACE (1709 8th Ave. NE).

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to ensure space for everyone.

• 1:30 – 2:30pm: Paula from Dance Through Life will teach a 60min Tahitian routine.
• 2:30 – 3:00pm: Jim from Pirate Jim will teach 30min oli (chanting) and mele (singing) basics.
• 3:00 – 3:15pm: Mini break
• 3:15 – 4:15pm: Taraya from NahlaniDance will teach a 60min Hawaiian routine.

You choose which session(s) you want to attend: Tahitian, Hawaiian, chanting/singing, or all of them!

Absolutely no experience is required for any of the sessions.

So you don’t know how to dance, or you don’t know anything at all about Hawaiian chanting let alone how to say any of those really long words! The workshop is designed for people of all abilities, aged 12 and up. You just need to have a love of trying new things.

Costs:

Early bird pricing ends April 9, 2018.

• $25 for one class
• $40 for two classes
• $50 for the full afternoon (includes both 60min classes and 30min oli/mele class with Jim)

Regular price effective April 10, 2018.

• $35 for one class
• $50 for two classes
• $60 for the full afternoon

Optional for those that want to attend ONLY the language session: $10 (warly bird) or $20
