About Vertigo Theatre

Vertigo Theatre has entertained audiences for over 42 years. We are located at the base of the Calgary Tower, which is home to our administration and ticket offices as well as our two performance venues. We program the BD&P Mystery Theatre Series and are also home to a variety of arts organizations that rent our performance venues throughout the season. Our diverse audience includes young adults to urban professionals and seniors.

About the Position

Vertigo Theatre seeks an individual for the position of Production Apprentice. Reporting to the Interim Production and Facility Manager, the Production Apprentice will be exposed to all the aspects it takes to produce a professional production. The experience will be highly varied and can include everything from participating in lighting hangs, sound install, set install, props building/sourcing, rigging, paint, special effects, and wardrobe.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who has a keen interest in developing their skills in theatrical production. This position would be well suited to a recent graduate of theatre school or someone with a technical or production background in community theatre.

Additional Skills and Requirements:

  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Comfortable using power tools.
  • Able to lift 50lbs or more.
  • Ability to take direction & work independently.
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with some evenings and weekends required.

  • The Thin Man, Immediately – September 25, 2018
  • Dracula, October 22 – November 16, 2018
  • Deathtrap, January 4 – February 1, 2019
  • Might as Well Be Dead: A Nero Wolfe Story, February 25 – March 22, 2019

This is a minimum four-week contract position for the production of The Thin Man with the possibility of additional work available for subsequent shows throughout the season.

Compensation: $15 per hour based on the 44-hour work week. Some evenings and weekends required.
Start Date: As soon as possible.
