Programming & Communications Manager

Salary: From $16.50 an hour
Application Details: Cover letter
Start Date: No later than October 10, 2022
Job Type: Full-time

All staff as part of job are expected to be member-service oriented during the course of any given day, ie serving members as they come into the facility day to day, answering phones calls, basic point of sale transactions, new member orientations.

As we are a membership-driven cooperative, much of the work centres around member needs and requests, and we try to offer a yearly cycle of events that benefit our membership, with also a mandate to make CSIF a relevant part of the film and artistic community in the programs we offer.

The Organization

The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) is an inclusive, non-profit, arts-based society that exists to fuel filmmakers, support storytellers and connect the cinematic community. CSIF’s vision is to be a destination community for independent film production, exhibition and people who love cinema. We value diversity, mentoring and “film geeks,” and promote a collaborative community culture with staff, volunteers and more than 300 members.

The Position

Programming & communications manager is a key pillar of the CSIF staff team and essentially is responsible for overseeing CSIF’s internal and external programs, as well as our weekly and monthly communications and social media.

For programming, the person would oversee and coordinate, generally:

  • The Artifact Film Festival (Spring)
  • Two member screenings (Spring and Fall)
  • Stinger Award’s — assisting the Stinger Committee (November/Fall)
  • Community partnership programming we may get involved in throughout the year (CIFF, CUFF, Cinematheque, et. al)
  • Interacting with programming stakeholders, programming committee, sponsors, existing partnerships, as well as expanding our programming opportunities within a budget.
  • Coordinating small groups of member volunteering for various CSIF programs
  • Assisting production with our workshop schedule (Fall and Spring)

Experience in Canadian media arts, filmmaking and/or artist-run centres is not required, but considered an asset.

The position is full-time (35 hours/week) with an expectation to be available to work some Saturdays, as well as attend and support events held outside of regular business hours, as needed. CSIF offers three weeks of vacation (plus a two-week break late December to early January).

Interested applicants, please provide a cover letter and resume attention to executive director.
