Calgary Cinematheque promotes film as an art form, challenging its audience with a variety of cinematic experiences and nurturing serious discussion of film. As a vital contributor to critical cinema culture in Calgary, we offer regular presentations of significant and diverse cinematic works during our screening season. Calgary Cinematheque seeks a dynamic, organized, and self-motivated individual for the part-time contractor position of programming coordinator. The programming coordinator reports directly to, and works closely with, the Calgary Cinematheque programming committee and board of directors, and coordinates with the operations manager, communications coordinator, and bookkeeper. Responsibilities include: Film Booking: Working with film distributors, sales agents, producers, and film institutions to clear rights and book titles for Calgary Cinematheque’s programming season. Event Production and Print Traffic: Working with venue partners, projection service providers, and shipping companies to secure screening materials (hard drive, BluRays, film reels) as needed, and ensuring a high quality of film presentation. Programming and Curation: Working with the programming committee to generate ideas, research relevant programming opportunities, and coordinate program schedule in support of Calgary Cinematheque’s mandates. Reporting: Maintaining audience statistics, tracking program costs, and fulfilling reporting obligations to funding bodies. Ticketing and Sales: Coordinating with communications coordinator and volunteers to manage ticketing and in-person sales during Cinematheque screenings. Correspondence: Responding to general inquiries, directing correspondence to board or other personnel as needed, maintaining office (and online workspace) organization, and acting as a public-facing representative of the organization. Board Support: Assisting the board of directors with board meetings, committee meetings, and board development activities as needed. Promotion: Working closely with and supporting communications coordinator with promotional activities, copywriting, and other promotional tasks, as needed. Financials and Funding: Liaising with the bookkeeper to assist with financial record keeping, conducting bill payments and bank runs, providing budget input, coordinating casino event and any other fundraisers, and ideally grant writing and reporting Qualifications include: One+ years experience in arts programming, arts/event production, or curation, preferably in discipline of film. Understanding of film culture, history, and/or exhibition contexts and familiarity with film/video formats. Sensitivity to diverse cultural, linguistic, artistic, and operational contexts (with potential for correspondence with companies and institutions from around the world) and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Excellent communication and organizational skills and proficiency with various web-based productivity suites (Google Suite, Slack, Trello, etc.) Ideal candidate would have: Experience in non-profit arts organizations.
