Race, Ethnicity and Belonging

The application deadline for this opportunity has passed.

The Alberta Society of Artists invites all artists (over 18) residing in Alberta to participate in the exhibition Race, Ethnicity and Belonging that addresses issues relating to racism in Alberta.

The purpose of this exhibition is to enhance understanding of racism in our community. A sense of belonging refers to one’s sense of being accepted, valued, included and encouraged by others. In contrast, racism takes many forms and can happen in many places. It includes prejudice, discrimination or hatred directed at someone because of his or her colour ethnicity or national origin. Racism can be explicit or implicit.

Participants are encouraged to create artwork that addresses, challenges or brings awareness to racism in Alberta. It is open to your interpretation of the theme for two dimensional artworks up to 40″ in any one direction (including frame) photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, digital illustrations, etc.
