Evergreen Theatre and Community SPACES is looking to hire a few individuals to join our roster of casual technicians to aid us in serving our event clients. Our event clients are generally performance-based one-time SPACES users (theatre, dance and music), with an occasional corporate meeting or presentation. Every client has individual needs and the right team members will enjoy working in the moment with clients to provide them basic theatrical style technical support.

This will be a casual/part-time contract position with a flexible schedule based around facility bookings. The hours will be predominately Friday and Saturday evenings, with the odd daytime shift available. Roster members are contacted monthly, and available shifts are offered based on client needs and availability of team members.

Rate is $24/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate lights based on client needs (Incognito board, pre-hung instruments on grid).
  • Help SPACES clients patch their devices into our projector.
  • Assist SPACES clients with their sound needs (patch devices into our speaker systems and set levels).
  • Operate microphones.
  • Unlocking and locking the building.
  • Ensuring the theatre event space remains free of technical hazards (taping cords, ensuring aisles remain clear, etc.) and that safe stage practices are observed.
  • Ensuring fire exits are open and then resecured after events.
  • Help with set-up/take-down for client events as required (could include chairs, tables, client technical equipment etc.)
  • Occasional light custodial if required during the event.

Qualifications:

  • Technical skills/ basic lights and sound for theatre and dance events.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills.
  • Ability to lift tables, move chairs and handle light custodial duties.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with commitment to the team and the SPACES client experience.
  • Comfortable working alone and in a team.
  • Ability to climb two flights of stairs multiple times in a shift (our tech booth is located on the second level and only accessible via a stairwell).
  • Comfortable with ladders.
  • A love for community and the arts.
  • Desire to work with a diverse group of clients with varying needs, from various sectors.
  • Familiarity with both Mac and PCs, lighting instruments, projectors and wireless microphones an asset.
  • And a sense of fun!
