The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a professional, energetic, and engaging student recruiter to support the recruitment & admissions team in promoting AUArts degree programs and assisting with the application review process for prospective students.

This is a permanent part-time recurring position for the months of October 1 – May 31, 2022. Hours of work are 35 hours per week for the eight months worked.

The Alberta University of the Arts offers its 1,100 students studio-based programming that leads to a bachelor of fine arts in one of nine disciplines, a bachelor of design in one of two, and an MFA in Craft Media. It has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and will soon be celebrating its centennial.

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the dean of students and the team lead, recruitment & admissions, the student recruiter is a member of the student recruitment & admissions team, which facilitates the promotion of AUArts degree programs to prospective students and influencers including participation in high school visits and recruitment fairs, advising, communications, marketing, and support for event planning on and off campus. The recruiter is also responsible for assisting in the processing and review of applications for admission to AUArts degree programs or other specialized programs as required, which includes assessment of academic, language proficiency and creative qualifications (portfolios).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and represents AUArts at key recruitment activities within assigned region; inclusive of the scheduling and delivery of tour visits, presentations and workshops for secondary school students and influencers; and other organizations and groups, representing AUArts with professionalism and enthusiasm at all times.
  • Contacts assigned art teachers and counsellors at target high schools and associations to set up school visits and campus tours.
  • Participates in all prospective-student on- and off-campus events, including campus tours, AUArts open house, portfolio review days, counsellor updates and teacher receptions.
  • Front line representation of the recruitment and admissions office to respond to inquiries by email, phone and in person, about programs and requirements to students, prospective students, faculty and staff. Refers to internal resources as required.
  • Meets with prospective students and influencers 1-1 to promote AUArts programs, admission requirements and deadlines, and promote opportunities and the AUArts experience.
  • Collects leads and contacts from all visits or events, ensuring data is captured in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Follows up on leads using the CRM system, cultivating relationships with prospective students, art teachers, guidance counsellors and/or other influencers.
  • Supports the application for admission processes, including receipt, acknowledgement of applications and review of applications; coordination and administration of the academic and portfolio review process; correspondence with applicants on status and outstanding documents; maintenance of an admissions wait list; and completion of the transfer credit evaluation process.
  • Assists in reviewing transcripts, language proficiency documents, portfolios and statements of intent and other admission documents submitted by applicants and determines their admissibility based on the AUArts admission requirements and policies.
  • Effectively uses marketing materials and social media to generate awareness, produce leads, promote events.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of AUArts’ programming and opportunities, including those available through Continuing Education and Professional Development, transfer and articulation agreements and other partnerships.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in a related field, preferably in fine art/design.
  • Experience in a related field within a post-secondary environment is an asset.
  • Experience in a customer service role in the field of student recruitment, public relations or marketing is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and provide information accurately and quickly upon request.
  • Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to work in a service-oriented environment.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management systems is an asset.
  • Student Information System (Banner) experience is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel).

As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this permanent recurring part-time position falls under a classification 5 (Five). The starting annual salary is $51,260 – $56,833 dependent upon skills, education and experience.
