The Art of Sign Language in Theatre

Handsome Alice Theatre presents The Art of Sign Language in Theatre.

This event explores how sign language is more than just a service added to a presentation or performance. How do we incorporate sign language into the development of theatre, from playwriting to directing?

This workshop presentation will discuss different types of theatrical frameworks that allow Deaf artists and ASL performers to be seen in the artistic process, and offers some tools and resources for theatre practitioners to build a more impactful experience for both Deaf and hearing audiences.

Presenter

Landon Krentz is a bilaterally profoundly Deaf artist who is completely bilingual in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. As a Deaf artist, he brings a unique perspective to his roles as director of artistic sign language and an ASL performer for theatre. His work has allowed him to advocate for artists within the larger community so that Deafness is looked upon as a reflection of diversity and culture.
