Reconciliation and the Canadian Art World

With Troy Patenaude

The date of this talk has passed.

This PD talk will outline how some of the common ways we talk, think, and learn about art in Canada that reinforce seemingly outdated racist and oppressive ideologies against Indigenous people, and why these are important insights for us to have.

A general overview of some key historical and contextual moments will be mentioned, followed by a basic conversation around such terms as  racism, colonialism, reconciliation, art, appropriation, and Indigenous. This talk is meant to be an introduction offering tools for a deeper understanding. It does not aim to finalize anything, but instead to amplify connections and future possibilities.

Date: Saturday, April 7, 2018, 2:00pm
Cost: This is a free event!
Location: Join us at The New Gallery (208 Centre St. SE).
