The Writers’ Guild of Alberta is looking for an individual with strong organizational and writing skills for the position of operations and grants officer.

Location: Edmonton or Calgary WGA office, at home during times of COVID restrictions

This is a 21 hour per week maternity leave position with an expected term length running until August 2021.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

Oversee financial and administrative systems, financial and donor databases, and revenue development strategy.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Bank reconciliation, budget, and forecasting.
  • Develop and maintain donor database.
  • Grant preparation and reporting.
  • Research, identify and pursue opportunities to sustain diversified revenue strategy.
  • Supports effective tracking of endowed accounts and current fund usage.
  • Ensures processing of donor gifts, pledges, and receipts.
  • Communicate and coordinate fund development activities with the members of the WGA staff as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination of fundraising efforts determined by the Fund Development Task Force by providing research and administration/communication support to successfully realize individual projects and identified priorities.
  • Undertake specific research initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

The should demonstrate ability in the following:

  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and efficient manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities wherever possible.
  • Organizational Skills: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.

Education

University degree in arts and culture management, English or a related field with three-five years of work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, internet.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours, as required.
  • Knowledge of the literary community a strong asset.
  • Experience with budgeting and office practices, familiarity with QuickBooks accounting system an asset.

Salary Range

$21.50 -$23 hourly based on experience.
