Writers Wanted

I (Daniel J. Perryman) have a playwriting residency from March 1 – April 31, 2024 as part of the Artists Inn Residence Inn (AIRI) Program, an initiative by the Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary Downtown/Beltline District.

I’m looking to collaborate with local (Calgary and area) writers of varying mediums during this residency. Participation means committing to a writing session of approximately four hours in length, during which featured artists and I will explore different writing practices based on randomly selected prompts submitted by the public ahead of time.

There is also a technological component to this project in which there will be a brief livestream at the beginning and end of each writing session. We will first introduce ourselves and randomly select our prompts from the public and share that thought process. At the end of our writing session we will offer a brief reflection on the process of working within such harsh time limitation. We will also mention that a snippet of what we were able to create will be available at the showcase at the end of the residency in April. I am hoping that featured artists will be able to attend the showcase in April also.

It is important to note that this is a volunteer-based opportunity at this time: should I receive funding retroactively then featured artists will receive a small honorarium.

Next steps include either filling out this form which includes writing prompts, or emailing me at perrymandanielj@gmail.com with the subject line: “AIRI Writer – [Your Name]”. Upon receiving your email, I will send you a more detail outline of the project and book a virtual meeting to address any questions or concerns you might have. I will be following up with interested parties in mid-late February to solidify dates/times for people’s writing sessions.
