Jamie Gray has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Glass) from the Alberta College of Art + Design and a Master of Fine Arts (Glass) from the University of Edinburgh. Her focus is on sculptural and kiln-formed glass of a narrative nature, with current work centred on identity (especially Canadian, as found on the prairies since about 1890), roots pilgrimages, and the ways in which we view our identities through our mortalities. To this end, she researches prairie monuments, abandoned places, ghost towns, and cemeteries to glean historical information and get a sense of the past. Her resultant artistic response is to create sculptural pieces that draw the viewer in to the question, “Who are we and what is “home” on the Canadian prairies?”.
